Rapidshare’s Freaking Policy Change!

Nowadays you can find anything to be downloaded on Rapidshare’s File Sharing Storage. They offer you free download (with limitations) or premium account (paid service) download of files on their storage server. Eh, wait! Now Rapidshare is actually limiting the premium accounts as well? What bullshit!

I just extended an account last week and as start to download some goodies, i got an error saying i have reached the daily traffic limit of 2.66GB? What the hell? All this while it was 10GB downloads per day and now it’s 2.66GB? And the policy change took place and they did not even send an email to their premium account holders on this! When mailed to them, no reply! 2.66GB traffic per day for paid premium account is not worth the shit at all, having the price being 6.99 Euros per month.

Most of the premium users are already pissed and moving to other storage sites like Megaupload or Megashares, and Rapidshare would just have to blame themselves for it. Rapidshare does allow you to buy extra traffic (bandwidth) for additional charges or you can use up your trafficshare (which i am not sure how the fuck it works as the explanation on their website simply sux!).

Reply From RapidShare To My Email:

Hello,

we are sorry that you got the error message about the download limit.

Traffic management is necessary to keep the prices we have right now and the
high download speeds we offer.

You have the possibility to convert your RapidPoints for additional traffic.
Every point is worth 9 megabyte. The maximum amount of traffic which can be
added to your account is displayed in your premium zone.

Additional you are able to purchase TrafficShare-packages in your premium zone
if you reached the traffic limit.

TrafficShare is converted to download traffic automatically when you request
more that your download traffic credits can handle.
For the TrafficShare to be converted you need more than 5GB on your account.
Each time it converts it will subtract 1GB from your TrafficShare credits and
move it to your download traffic.
This allows you to download as much as you want or have credits, per day.

Please be aware that some download managers can cause more traffic than the
actual file size.
The reason is that our system and the download managers do not match.

Downloading with a web browser will not cause any unnecessary traffic.

Every Premium Account receives 2666 MB traffic volume each day.
The maximum amount that can be collected is 10 GB.
Once you have reached the limit you have to wait until 00:01 CET of the next
day to receive the next 2666 MB. In certain circumstances your download volume
can be overdrawn. In this case the overdrawn amount is subtracted from the
next day credit.

Traffic Example:

Day 1 2666 MB New Account, no Downloads
Day 2 5332 MB No Downloads
Day 3 6998 MB 1000 MB has been downloaded
Day 4 9664 MB No Downloads

With the link “View Logs” in the premium zone you can see how much you have
downloaded on each day and from what IP-address.

If there are IP-addresses listed that you do not know, please change your
password (and maybe your e-mail address) in the premium zone using the link
“settings” and make sure that your computer and email-address are secure so
nobody could access your RapidShare-account.

Best regards,

I agree absolutely, I am not wasting my money for their new “policy” of 2.66 GB per day, I’m sure they have a new management at rapidshare with new ideas such as this idiotic policy, idiotic because is going to translate in huge customer loses for them, on the phone the customer representative tried to appear optimistic about the “loyalty” of their millions of existing account holders, well, at least myself, they’ve lost as a customer. It was only 6.99 euros, but they will never get that or any other amount from me, not even if they revert this worthless policy, which as you’ve said, they did not even bother to notify by email, as if they knew that what they were about to do was simply degrade their service.

2.66 GB per day is NOTHING nowadays considering the new HDD capacities and internet speed, I have a Verizon FiOS connection of 3.5 mbps and 2 terabytes HDD on my main computer, this is why I consider the new rapidshare policy a total degrade.

Alessandro: I think they changed their policy again. Now they are giving 5GB traffic per day and total accumulated Traffic of 12GB (if not used).

I truly wish RS will go down to the drain. It was exactly 2 days before this change when I extended my account for another 3 months. I fought back the RS and got 2 months money back. But I am not spending a dime on them anymore. Deutche Dicks, they are!
