After some time i managed to get an invite for Google Plus. Google + is a social network layer created by Google which is said to be a great threat to Facebook. After some time using it, i don’t feel it is going threat Facebook at all. Maybe this is just cause of it’s early stage.

I just feel that the beta stage of Google + should not be used to compare with Facebook. Some of the features good introduced seems unique and some just reminds me of either Facebook or Twitter. That said, i feel if you give time to it, Google + could threat Facebook which is become boring nowadays.

I have been writing some micro-reviews on things i follow when i am free. For some time i have been using Tumblr to achieve this, due to features it has and also popularity. After a few months my micro-review site has moved to Posterous. Why?

Posterous is fast and i can always post on the go with ease (Android Client or Email). Another feature i always wanted is converting urls to embeds which Posterous handles without flaws. The main thing which Tumblr couldn’t handle properly was cross posting to Twitter and also Facebook. Tumblr’s cross posting only works at times and not always and ever since i start using Posterous, this problem was solved.

So if you are planning to start a micro-blog for any reason head over to Posterous. Check out my new Micro-Review Blog HERE.

My primary OS on my notebook is Ubuntu and i have never regretted using it for so many years. At the same time since i love to check on ‘security’ of websites, systems and other technology platform, Backtrack 4 is another linux distro which i use a lot. What happens if you could combine the coolness of Ubuntu with the security penetration tools of Backtrack into one system? It becomes the perfect Operating System!

I finally managed to add Backtrack’s repository to Ubuntu and install most of the tools from Backtrack and use it on Ubuntu. Now i am able to perform hacking and security violation using my lovely Ubuntu. I haven’t tried all the tools yet as some of the tools from Backtrack would need a custom pre-compiled kernel to work well. But my favorite tools such as Aircrack and Metasploit is working in awesomeness! I am so proud to be running a perfect Operating System.

To get the Backtrack repo on to your Ubuntu, just google for it. To many websites have put up tutorials on this. Have fun!

Most of us would have already heard about the new Social Network by Google called Google Me. As for me i really can’t wait for its release. There are many suggestions on what Google Me needs to do in order to beat Facebook, but for me there is only idea which i think will be the best to make Facebook users to move to Google Me.

Google Me should create an option to import everything from Facebook! Why? This will make it easier for users to move to their new home. Allow users to import all data, information, photos, videos, links and etc. All users from Facebook won’t even think twice to move!

Since Google Me is said to be based on Facebook concept, the import feature is the onlye option which is needed to attract users from Social Network to move in. If Google hears me, just create this feature/option and trust me, Google Me can outcome Facebook in no time.

Facebook is considering a new feature which i totally find irrelevant and not necessary by any chance. Adding a DISLIKE button to Pages / Posts? I am sure this feature will make many to dislike Facebook even further!

Imagine you posting something really nice, people dislike it for fun! Well this will surely bring down the reputation of your post. At the same time, wouldn’t it make you feel it is a waste of time to let others give negative feedback. Imagine another scenario where you post a photo of yourself with your family and people come and dislike it? It would cause anger and might as well cause an argument.

Well Facebook please try to come up with more professional features or ideas than this. I am sure if Facebook added the dislike button on it’s main page, it will be swarmed with hits. Anyway this is my personal opinion, and it stays that way!

Being a person who tries many new mobile applications to access Facebook, i am always stuck with the stupid Facebook roadblock verification system. Well the roadblock system normally gets to you when it suspects someone else is trying to your account from an untrusted source, so it stops your access to Facebook and will only let you through after you successfully answer a few questions given by the roadblock system.

First of all, everybody knows how lame this roadblock system is and also how stupid Facebook tagging system is. The roadblock system actually ask me to identify my friends tagged in their own pictures before i can access my account. Best part is i need to get 5 pictures correct out of 7. Do you want to know what pictures was actually shown to me? Check below!

This are just 2 of the other 3 pictures of my friend that i got. How the hell would i know who were tagged in this pictures? I can’t even refer back, since i can’t access my account until i get this right! Damn! First of all, tagging was introduced on Facebook to identify people, not as a way to send message to people. Facebook’s tagging system has been a joke ever since it was introduced as anyone can tag you as anything without getting your approval first. Secondly to Facebook please try to find another concept to your roadblock stupid, cause the method you have now is damn STUPID!

It’s not easy being ‘friends’ and now it is getting downright dangerous as the Koobface worm returns with a vengeance infecting social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, according to Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions.

The malicious Koobface program(an anagram of Facebook) targets sites such as Facebook and Twitter and uses compromised legitimate websites as proxies for its main command and control server, attempting to gather sensitive information from the victims such as credit card numbers. It was first detected in December 2008 and a more potent version appeared in March 2009 and it is unfortunately back again in 2010.

How Koobface Does the Nasty

“Koobface spreads by delivering Facebook messages to people who are ‘friends’ of a Facebook user whose computer has already been infected. Once received, the message directs recipients to a third-party website, where they are prompted to download what is purported to be an update of the Adobe Flash player. If they download and execute the file, Koobface is able to infect their system. It can then commandeer the computer’s search engine use and direct it to contaminated websites,” said Ms Gun Suk Ling, Regional Managing Director, SEA, Kaspersky Labs Asia Limited.

Among the components downloaded by Koobface are a DNS filter program that blocks access to some security websites and a proxy tool that enables the attackers to abuse the infected PC.

Increased Activity of Koobface in the Past 2 Weeks

During the past 2 weeks, the Kaspersky Lab research team has observed the Koobface live Command &Control (C&C) servers shut down or cleaned, on average, three times per day. The number dropped steadily from 107 on 25 February, to as low as 71 on 08 March. Then, in just 48 hours, the number grew from 71 to 142, precisely doubling its total number, which all Koobface-infected computers use to get remote commands and updates.

“These latest happenings give us some indications of how the Koobface gang takes care of its infrastructure”, says Stefan Tanase, Senior Regional Researcher, Kaspersky Lab EEMEA. “Based on this, we can conclude that the cybercriminals are constantly monitoring their infrastructure status. They don’t want the number of C&C servers to drop too much, as that would mean losing their control over the botnet. When the number of active C&C servers drops to a critical level, they seem to be ready to implement dozens of new ones. The total number of Koobface C&C servers is constantly fluctuating, going from over a hundred to under a hundred and back again in a matter of weeks. It seems that when 100 C&C servers are online, the Koobface gang is relaxed. They also prefer to have their C&C servers distributed across the globe and with different ISPs, in order to make the take-down process harder. However, most of the Koobface C&C servers remain in the United States.”

Ms Gun Suk Ling of Kaspersky Lab shared some tips for users:

    * Be cautious when opening links in suspicious messages, even if the sender is one of your trusted Facebook friends.
* Use an up-to-date, modern browser: Firefox 3.x, Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Opera 10 etc.
* Divulge as little personal information as possible. Do not give out your home address, telephone number or other private details.
* Keep your antivirus software updated to prevent new versions of malware from attacking your computer.

Kaspersky Lab users running any of the Company’s current anti-malware products are fully protected from all known variants of Koobface. Kaspersky Lab’s global team of analysts are keeping a close eye on all threats coming from the social networking space, monitoring the malicious activity and constantly updating the protection customers receive.

The Koobface command and control infrastructure can be observed when looking at the evolution of the geographical location of IP addresses used to communicate with the infected computers. The usage of C&C servers is increasing mostly in the United Stated, growing from 48 percent to 52 percent. Currently, more than half of the Koobface C&C servers are hosted in the United States, far exceeding any other country.
